According to UEFA regulations, the winning team must return the original trophy before the final of the following season, but they are allowed to keep a replica. However, the replica cannot exceed five-eighths of the size of the original. Teams that have won the title five times or have achieved three consecutive victories are entitled to keep one of the trophies permanently. In 1966, Real Madrid was the first team to keep the original trophy. UEFA's then-Secretary General, Henri Delaunay, decided to commission a new trophy, which was designed by Swiss expert A.F.斯塔德尔曼 (The current Big Ear trophy is different from the one used before 1966).
