There is 与 There are 的区别：后跟单复数不同、后跟名词不同、使用情况不同。
一、后跟单复数不同：
There is ：主语是单数，be动词用is。
There are：主语是复数，be动词用are。
二、后跟名词不同：
There is ：后加单数名词或不可数名词。例子，There is a book（单数名词）；There is some bread（不可数名词）
There are： 加复数名词。例子，（复数名词）There are many trees.
三、根据名词的先后顺序，使用情况不同（be动词根据最靠近be动词的那个名词决定。）：
There is ：靠近be动词的名词为单数时，用is。例子，There is a pen and two books on the desk.（书桌上有一支钢笔和两本书。）
There are：靠近be动词的名词为复数时，用are。例子，There are two books and a pen on the desk.（书桌上有两本书和一支钢笔。）
There is/There are称为There be句型，也称为存在句型，表示事物的客观存在，There在此结构中是引导词，已经没有副词"那里"的含义
