1、cause 作为名词,意思是“原因,理由”,是造成一种事实或现象的“原因”; 作为及物动词,意思是“引起、使产生、给……带来。”
如:
1).Carelessness is the usual cause of fire.  (名词)
造成火灾的原因通常是不谨慎。

2). He is not only dull in himself, but the cause of dullness in others.(名词)   他不仅仅是自己愚蠢,而且是引起他人愚蠢的原因。
3). What caused the accident? (动词)
