To Establish Maize Production Base In Burma In Order To Protect Foodstuffs’ Security In Sichuan Province
Maize are the important foodstuffs and commercial crop. To promote and develop the maize production, is not only to deal with increasing the grain yield, but also in concern about developing subsequent production such as animal husbandry and cultivation, further processing of agricultural products（for examples : vintage, fodder and other chemical products）. It played great role and occupied very important position in pushing the agriculture’ reform from the traditional one into the modern.
Sichuan is the main area of maize production in whole country. In the whole province there are planting area 18million mu(1mu=666.7sq.m), total output 6million ton. Recently, in Sichuan province, the annual demanding for maize are continuously increasing. In 2006, the total demanding reached at 12million ton, it was need of 4million ton supplemented from North-east or other province. At present, because of speedy developing of maize further processing production at home and abroad, the condition of maize production, supplying and consumption in Sichuan and whole country were effected seriously. The main maize production area such as North-east China and USA had enlarged the maize further processing － transforming on-site, and decreased the quantity to be exported. It caused the traditional maize import place Southern China including Sichuan province be confronted to the difficulties of deployment recently. Sichuan is big agricultural province, foodstuffs’ problem is very important. There will be stabilization of society where are full of foodstuffs, otherwise there will arise the troubles. This is good lesson taught by the history. So, we must attach the importance to the new condition which maize production has met, we must make enough preparation to use the foodstuffs and land source of the two markets at home and abroad, to high up the yield per unit, enlarging area, and increasing total yield of maize in our province, on this ground, we will develop the agriculture further to the abroad, to establish the maize production base in the country where are under the optimum conditions such as Burma ect. in South-East Asian countries, to import the maize from Burma, to open up the new way of maize import into Sichuan, to high up degree of self-sufficiency in Sichuan province, to relieve the stress between the demanding and supplying of maize in whole province, in order to promote the development of agriculture in Sichuan and to protect security of Sichuan foodstuffs.
