First of all, I will introduce the national day of Australia, called Australia Day, which is on 26th January every year to memorize the day of first group European arriving in Australia. All Australian will take one-day holiday on that day according to the law.
The national day was made firstly in Sydney Cove by rising the British flag on 26th January, 1778 in order to memorize the captain, Arthur Phillip. This day is not only a legal holiday but also a day that all Australian who have different backgrounds get together to celebrate country consolidation. There will be various activities in every district at that time. In Sydney, thousands of people will get together to the coast of seaport to see the celebrate activity on water. In cities and towns, there will be others, such as team breakfast, beach dancing, needfire party and concert, parade and celebrations, sports matches, culture and history display, as well as firework show.
The national day always starts from official morning ceremony, including in sequence rising flag, singing national song, saluting, delivering the medals to special items or person, which is set for put a premium on Australian who have outstanding achievements and make great contributes for their country, including excellent people in every age and field. The award is divided into 4 categories: Outstanding Australian, Annual Achievement Award (60 and after 60), Annual Australian youth(16 to 25), and Native Australian Hero. It will be delivered on the eve of the national day in the capital Canberra. Besides, the ceremony of citizen naturalization will be held to welcome the new citizen.
